Role Overview:
The CAD Technician will produce accurate technical drawings and construction documentation in compliance with UK Building Regulations Parts A through M, supporting architectural and engineering design teams across multiple project stages.
Key Responsibilities:
Design & Drafting
- Produce, modify, and manage CAD drawings using AutoCAD (and/or Revit/BIM where applicable).
- Prepare detailed drawings for planning, building control, and construction stages.
- Translate design concepts into technically compliant drawings.
- Maintain drawing registers and revision control.
Building Regulations Compliance (Parts A–M)
- Ensure drawings comply with all relevant Approved Documents, including but not limited to:
- Part A – Structure:
Coordinate structural layouts, load paths, and structural detailing. - Part B – Fire Safety:
Incorporate fire compartmentation, escape routes, fire resistance, and access for fire services. - Part C – Site Preparation and Resistance to Contaminants and Moisture:
Detail damp-proofing, ventilation, and ground conditions. - Part D – Toxic Substances:
Ensure materials and detailing prevent harmful emissions where applicable. - Part E – Resistance to the Passage of Sound:
Apply acoustic separation details between dwellings and rooms. - Part F – Ventilation:
Detail natural and mechanical ventilation systems. - Part G – Sanitation, Hot Water Safety and Water Efficiency:
Coordinate layouts for sanitary fittings and water efficiency measures. - Part H – Drainage and Waste Disposal:
Produce drainage layouts and waste systems compliant with regulations. - Part J – Combustion Appliances and Fuel Storage:
Incorporate safe clearances, ventilation, and flue arrangements. - Part K – Protection from Falling, Collision and Impact:
Detail stairs, balustrades, guarding, and glazing safety. - Part L – Conservation of Fuel and Power:
Support energy-efficient detailing and coordination with SAP/SBEM requirements. - Part M – Access to and Use of Buildings:
Ensure inclusive design and accessibility compliance throughout layouts.
Coordination & Communication
- Liaise with architects, engineers, building control officers, and external consultants.
- Respond to design queries and technical comments.
- Assist in resolving clashes between architectural, structural, and MEP elements.
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure drawings meet company standards and regulatory requirements.
- Support submissions to planning authorities and building control.
- Maintain accurate records and documentation.
Requirements:
- Proficiency in AutoCAD (Revit/BIM experience advantageous).
- Strong working knowledge of UK Building Regulations Parts A–M.
- Experience producing technical drawings for construction projects.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
