Job Summary

The Electrical Maintenance Tradesperson is responsible for performing electrical installation, fault-finding, repair, and preventative maintenance tasks to ensure the safe and reliable operation of plant, equipment, and building electrical systems. The role requires a strong commitment to safety, compliance with statutory requirements, and a high standard of technical workmanship.

Key Responsibilities

Maintenance & Repairs

  • Conduct preventative, corrective, and reactive maintenance on electrical equipment, systems, and infrastructure.
  • Diagnose and rectify faults in electrical circuits, motors, control systems, lighting, switchboards, and distribution networks.
  • Test, inspect, and verify electrical installations to meet legislative and organisational standards.
  • Perform equipment overhauls, component replacements, and electrical upgrades.
  • Assist with commissioning of new electrical equipment and systems.

Safety & Compliance

  • Work in accordance with WHS/OHS legislation, electrical safety regulations, and relevant standards (e.g., AS/NZS 3000).
  • Complete permits to work, isolation/LOTO procedures, JSA/SWMS, and risk assessments.
  • Ensure all work is compliant with local electrical licensing requirements.
  • Report hazards, incidents, and equipment defects promptly.
  • Maintain PPE and electrical tools (e.g., testing equipment) in safe working condition.

Technical & Operational Tasks

  • Read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and technical documentation.
  • Use electrical testing instruments (e.g., multimeters, insulation testers, loop testers) accurately and safely.
  • Work with LV and (if licensed) HV systems.
  • Perform routine inspections of electrical plant and building services systems.
  • Maintain reliable operation of motors, VSDs, PLCs, pumps, conveyors, and control panels (industry-specific).

Documentation & Reporting

  • Complete job cards, service reports, and inspection records.
  • Maintain accurate asset and maintenance data within CMMS systems (e.g., SAP, Pronto, MEX).
  • Provide recommendations for improvements, parts sourcing, and corrective actions.

Teamwork & Communication

  • Work collaboratively with other trades, production teams, and contractors.
  • Provide technical support and guidance to apprentices or less experienced team members.
  • Communicate clearly about job progress, risks, priorities, and equipment status.
